What does a wedding band cost?
Guide prices, pricing factors and example calculations for weddings in Austria.
The short answer: a professional wedding band with a full lineup typically costs approx. €2,600 to €7,800 in Austria for a full-evening performance – depending mainly on the number of musicians (4 to 11), playing time, technical setup and venue. Smaller jazz, lounge and dinner lineups from 3 musicians start below that range at a guide price of approx. €2,300. This guide explains what is behind these figures and how to plan the right budget.
In brief
The guide price
Approx. €2,600–7,800 for a full-evening wedding with 4 to 11 musicians – including preparation, technical setup, installation, soundcheck and teardown.
The biggest cost factor
The lineup size. Professional musicians' fees are the largest cost block – every additional voice and instrument increases both impact and effort.
The most common comparison mistake
Offers are only comparable if lineup, playing time and technical setup are defined identically. A seemingly cheaper offer without included equipment is often the more expensive one.
Guide prices by band size
| Lineup | Typical setting | Price orientation |
|---|---|---|
| 4–5 musicians (compact) | Smaller to mid-sized weddings, dinner & party, private celebrations | approx. €2,600–4,200 |
| 6–7 musicians (medium) | Weddings with a full dance floor, more voices and richer sound | approx. €3,400–5,400 |
| 8–9 musicians (large) | Larger weddings with strong stage presence, optionally with horns | approx. €4,200–6,600 |
| 10–11 musicians (premium) | Exclusive weddings with a full show-band impact | approx. €4,900–7,800 |
These figures are guide prices for typical full-evening bookings, not fixed prices. For jazz, lounge and dinner settings, smaller lineups from 3 musicians are also possible – these are quoted individually depending on lineup, playing time, location and technical setup. You will find the detailed breakdown per number of musicians on the Pricing page.
What is included in the price
Artistic performance
The live performance of the booked lineup – professional musicians, voices, instruments, repertoire and stage presence throughout the entire evening.
Preparation & coordination
Music phases, song requests, no-go songs, first dance, set planning and coordination with the venue or planning team – the work starts weeks before the celebration.
Equipment & logistics
PA system, mixing desk, microphones, monitoring, lighting, setup, soundcheck and teardown as well as transport and travel are covered as a package service depending on the setting.
Which factors determine the price
1. Lineup size
By far the biggest influence. Which size fits your guest count, room and desired impact is explained in the decision guide Which band size fits?.
2. Playing time & presence
What counts is not just the pure playing time but the total presence: speeches, performances and programme items keep lineup and equipment tied up on site.
3. Venue & load-in routes
Load-in routes, stairs, parking, room acoustics, curfews and outdoor performance areas (e.g. an aperitif in the garden) influence effort and technical requirements.
4. Travel & logistics
Our home region is Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. On request we perform throughout Austria – for example in Upper Austria (Linz), Styria (Graz) and Salzburg; travel costs and logistics are calculated transparently into the offer.
5. Several performance areas per day
Ceremony, reception, dinner and party in different locations mean changeovers or additional technical setups. Details on Music for ceremony, reception and dinner.
6. Season & date
Saturdays in the main season (May–September) are in highest demand. Fridays, Sundays and dates outside the main season offer more flexibility.
Example calculations
Compact wedding, approx. 60–90 guests
4–5 musicians for dinner and party in a venue with one performance area. Guide price: approx. €2,600–4,200. Stylish, danceable and budget-conscious.
Classic wedding, approx. 90–140 guests
6–8 musicians for reception, dinner, first dance and a full dance floor. Guide price: approx. €3,400–6,000. The most common choice for full-evening weddings.
Large wedding, 140+ guests
8–11 musicians with horns and full show-band impact, e.g. in a palais or castle. Guide price: approx. €4,200–7,800. Maximum live impact.
Why offers on the market differ so much
Equipment included or extra?
Some offers appear cheaper because PA, lighting and sound equipment are not included and have to be rented separately. Always ask for the total price including equipment, setup and soundcheck.
Professional or semi-professional?
Experience, repertoire breadth, vocal quality, reliability and planning security differ considerably. References, live videos and reviews help with the assessment – you will find ours under Live impressions and Testimonials.
Direct or via an agency?
Agency and platform bookings often include a placement commission in the price. Booking directly with the band means direct communication with the musicians who will actually perform.
Fixed or flexible lineup?
Flexible lineup models such as our Lineups of 4 to 11 musicians allow you to match budget and impact precisely instead of buying a rigid package.
Saving sensibly
Sensible levers
A more compact lineup instead of the largest option, a clearly planned schedule without long idle periods, a venue with straightforward load-in routes – and combining a live band for the main evening with a playlist for the very late hours. More on this under Live band or DJ?.
The wrong levers
Saving on sound equipment, soundcheck or professionalism is audibly regrettable – music carries a large part of the evening. Skipping the first dance with live accompaniment is also often regretted afterwards; ideas on First dance with a live band.

Frequently asked questions about wedding band costs
What does a wedding band cost in Austria?
A professional wedding band with a full lineup typically costs approx. €2,600 to €7,800 in Austria for a full-evening performance, depending mainly on the number of musicians (4 to 11), playing time, technical setup and venue. Smaller jazz, lounge and dinner lineups from 3 musicians are available below that range and are quoted individually.
Why does a wedding band cost several thousand euros?
The price covers far more than the playing time on the evening itself: fees for several professional musicians, musical preparation and song requests, sound and lighting equipment, setup, soundcheck and teardown, travel and logistics, plus presence throughout the entire evening. The musicians' fees are the largest cost block.
What does a wedding band cost for around 100 guests?
For weddings with around 80 to 130 guests, a medium lineup of 5 to 7 musicians is often the right fit. The guide price is approx. €2,900 to €5,400 for a full-evening performance including technical setup, installation and preparation.
Is sound and lighting equipment included in a wedding band's price?
With The Jetset Society, PA system, mixing desk, microphones, monitoring, lighting, setup, soundcheck and teardown are covered as a package service depending on the setting. With offers from other providers it is worth asking whether the technical setup is included or charged separately – a frequent reason for seemingly large price differences.
What does live music for the ceremony and reception cost in addition?
Ceremony, reception and aperitif can be accompanied by a smaller lineup – for example a jazz trio or quartet – either as a standalone booking or as an extension of the evening programme. Because playing time, location and technical requirements vary widely, this part is quoted individually; as an extension of an evening booking it costs less than a separate booking.
How can you save on a wedding band without losing quality?
The most effective levers are a more compact lineup (e.g. 4–5 instead of 8 musicians), a clearly planned schedule without long idle periods, a venue with straightforward load-in routes, and combining a live band for the main evening with a playlist for the very late hours. Saving on technical equipment or professionalism is not recommended.
Is a DJ cheaper than a wedding band?
Yes, a DJ is usually cheaper because fewer people and less live setup are involved. A live band offers visible performance, several voices and instruments and musical dramaturgy in return. Many couples combine both: live band for reception, dinner, first dance and party, followed by a playlist or DJ for the late hours.
How early should you book a wedding band and when is the price fixed?
Popular dates – especially Saturdays from May to September – are often booked 9 to 18 months in advance. The price is fixed contractually with the offer and booking; later changes only arise if the lineup, playing time or scope of services change.
